Untargeted Metabolomics

Purpose: Hypothesis generation and discovery-driven research.
Approach: Comprehensive metabolic profiling when you don’t yet know which compounds are important. We detect thousands of molecular features across your samples to identify what’s changing. This works well for biomarker discovery and exploratory studies where the biology and chemistry are not fully defined.
Ideal for: Biomarker discovery, exploratory studies, and system-level metabolic characterization.

Precision Quantification

Targeted Metabolomics

Purpose: Absolute quantification of predefined metabolites or pathways.
Approach: Quantitative measurement of specific metabolites using authentic standards. This includes building calibration curves for standards + performance metrics (LOQ, linearity, precision), critical for mechanistic studies, clinical validation, or any work where precise numbers matter. We validate each assay to ensure the measurements are robust.
Ideal for: Mechanistic studies, clinical validation, pharmacokinetics, and translational research.

Hybrid Approach

Semi-Targeted Metabolomics

Purpose: Combining focused questions with broader metabolic context.
Approach: A hybrid approach: a quantitative focus on specific metabolite classes (such as bile acids, amino acids, lipids, etc.) while maintaining broad coverage for context. Useful when there is a hypothesis, but also need to see what else might be relevant.
Ideal for: Studies requiring both coverage depth and contextual interpretation.
