Alexey V. Melnik is Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Arome Science, where he leads the company’s strategy, operations, and scientific translation of multi-omics technologies. He has a strong background in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, microbiome research, and systems biology, with expertise in integrating metabolomics data with microbial sequencing to investigate complex biological questions.
Alexey earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia. Before co-founding Arome Science, he worked as a research scientist with the Aksenov Research Group at the University of Connecticut and later joined the Pieter Dorrestein Lab at the University of California San Diego. His work included developing analytical tools and computational workflows for characterizing, mapping, and quantifying human skin and microbial metabolites.
His research has focused on connecting microbial chemistry with genetic potential, using mass spectrometry data and bioinformatics platforms to study how microorganisms produce and transform biologically relevant molecules. He has contributed to large-scale workflows designed to link metabolomics, microbiome function, and chemical signatures across complex biological systems.
At Arome Science, Alexey applies his systems biology perspective to help build scalable, data-driven metabolomics solutions for biotech, pharma, and academic research teams. His leadership supports the company’s work at the intersection of microbiome metabolomics, multi-omics integration, and translational discovery.
